A business born out of the depression (see our About page at nsprinters.com for the details of that story), North Shore Printers was a family business for all of its 93 years. Not just the Callahan and Galbraith families, but the families of employees, vendors and clients as well. We always tried to treat all as we would want to be treated. And we hope that we did that in our plans to close as well.
Not going to go into the why of closing and not selling, but it’s a story of contracts signed long before our time and laws written in a different time with unintended consequences. We made our peace with NSP ending with us, the third generation, long ago and we are looking forward to retirement.
To anyone who knows us (Charlotte and Amy), then you likely know who is writing this. She of the many exclamation points and wordy emails, I’ve been the writer and the talker for the last 20+ years. Charlotte, on the other hand, has been the doer. She is the heart of NSP because nothing gets produced without her. She has taken to heart every deadline any client has given us for the last 25 years. (Upon reading this, Charlotte thinks I should make it clear that I don’t just talk, I do stuff as well!)
We want to thank all our many employees over the years but especially those who finished out this year with us. We appreciate that they showed such loyalty and trust by sticking with us till today. NSP is just a hardworking and nice group of people masquerading as a business.
In the 30+ years that we’ve run things, we’ve seen a dotcom bubble, 9-11, the Great Recession, the death of our beloved office manager (Natalie Bittner) and both of our parents (Harold and Joan Pfau Callahan), our cousin/partner/computer whiz (Michael Galbraith) and finally a pandemic, all while attempting to run a company in a “mature” industry with ever-changing and expensive technology. Not going to lie, it’s been A LOT. But we always tried our best to be fair
to our employees, be loyal to our vendors (and pay them promptly) and give our very best efforts to every client,
big or small.
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness everyone since making our announcement. We have been blessed with clients it’s been an honor to work for, vendors who we trusted and employees who went the extra mile. It means so much to us that it seems we made a difference in our small corner of this business.
Thank you again for everything. And remember, always take any printed material offered, you are keeping a
printer in business!
